We're Off to Paeroa!

It's 22nd March- Autumn. The weather's perfect and Easter and the school holidays are not far away. Time to take advantage of the fantastic conditions and cycle the Hauraki Rail Trail - or 3/5 of it anyway - on our e bikes.

Today we headed off to Paeroa via Bombay, Maramarua and Ngatea.

Chose our motel, Paeroa Motel, online as it stated that it was 50m from the rail trail. (Turned out that it was 50m from the Paeroa to Thames section!)

This motel is small and basic. Discovered another, Pedlars Motel, right in town and next to the start of all 5 sections. Would have been handier. Also, would be handy to collect a Rail Trail booklet from the Information Centre before taking off.

Spent the afternoon discovering the town and familiarizing ourselves with the cycle route exit heading towards Waihi.

No outstanding cafes here, but a central Countdown has all the supplies you might need - including wine - with a liquor store right next door! Numerous antique shops, too - many for sale.

Not much room in the unit, but will bring the bikes inside tonight for an easy getaway in the morning.

Tomorrow we're off to Waihi, through the Karagahake Gorge. Sounds exciting!
